Ava & Family - Newborn Session

I first met this wonderful family about four years ago, when Mum Ali booked in for a Newborn Session for her long awaited little one. Ali had been looking for a Newborn Photographer in Cheshire or North Wales and a mutual friend recommended me. We pencilled in her due date and awaited the exciting news.

When little Cleo arrived, they contacted me straight away (did I mention that one of my favourite parts of the job is that birth announcement!) to book an actual date for the session. I always try to offer a couple of session dates for within those first 14 days of birth, when baby is still tiny and curled up, with those special newborn features, the little lanugo hairs and milia on their noses.

I planned the session and when the day came and the family of three arrived with, I felt like we hit it off immediately. Ali and Chris were so warm and friendly and just super relaxed, happy to go with the flow. Little Cleo was just like her parents. She was so chilled out and always seemed to have a little smile on her beautiful face. Together, we created a perfect gallery that the family could treasure for generations to come.

On that note, it sounds so cliche, but that is the difference with this kind of investment. So many don't flinch at paying out for clothes, hair and all of the many beauty treatments there are to offer (and don't get me wrong, we need to feel good about ourselves too), but that investment lasts a month or two. The investment you make when you book a Newborn, Baby, Child or Family Photographer is going to last you many lifetimes. Passed on through generations. Who doesn't love looking at pictures of themselves when they were little, and sharing them with our own little ones. And isn't it so incredibly important to have your children see in years to come the connection that you had with them.

Back to my original blog! Cleo has been back a couple of times since and it's always such a pleasure to see her, as it is with all my little clients, whatever their personality! I especially love to see them grow. But when Ali booked in to come back again for another Newborn Session, I was blown away with excitement! And yet again, it didn't disappointment. Cleo was smitten with her baby sister, Ava, and loving her new big sister status as is pretty evident in her gallery. I also could not get over how similar Ava was to Cleo as a newborn, again with a little smile on her beautiful, sweet face. I cannot see how she changes over the months and years!

As always, over the next 2-3 weeks from the session, I put together a selection of beautiful images and edited them ready for presenting. I then like to give parents the chance to come and view the gallery here, but most enjoy doing it in the comfort of their own home. In this case, I send out an invitation to view, along with a personal password for client privacy and over the next 7 days, the images are available for you to view and choose from. My most popular package are the full digitals, and I am always over the moon when clients products because I just LOVE to see them printed big!

I meant to actually post a blog for Mothers Day (so long ago now!!!), but life took over and I never got round to it...here's where I got to...

The (very brief) History Of Mothers Day and what does it mean to you? 

Ok, so I did a little research here (forgive me if anyone knows better :) ) after my little boy announced that it’s Mothers Day at the weekend and asked if he will get a present!!  I’m pretty sure he was trying it on…as he often does…and I explained that it’s the day when Mums get extra cuddles.  It led me to wonder though, (other than the obvious) why do we celebrate Mothers Day, where does the tradition come from?  

It’s apparently not terribly straight forward, but having started in America, taking place on the second Sunday in May, the tradition then came over to the UK around 1913, where we celebrate on the fourth Sunday of Lent, to have “a day in praise of mothers”.  This began as a day to revisit your “mother” church (where you were baptised or attended as children), giving us Mothering Sunday.  Over time, it would become a day where servants working in large houses would be allowed the day off to visit their mothers and take a gift of food or hand me down clothes!  Nowadays, we continue to celebrate our Mothers Day by visiting (if we can) a very special person in our life and offering gifts, or if we’re really lucky, being treated to “extra cuddles” and attention ourselves! 

I’m incredibly lucky with my own mum, she has been there through everything with me, even now she is still with me during my Newborn Sessions! 

I asked some other Mum's what Mothers Day means to them, and I had such a lovely response...

“Laura Hampson said “I feel that even though I’m a mother to an amazing baby boy, I do what I do because I am a mother and not to be celebrated, I celebrate my mum, my nan and my boyfriends mum as them being my sons Nans and Great Nan! I’d rather spend all my money making sure they know they’re all amazing grandparents than think about myself on mother’s day☺️ xx””

“Kate Jerrum said “Mother’s Day has changed for me since I’ve had my little boy. I lost my mum when I was 21 and had found the build up to this once celebrated day excruciatingly difficult. It was “mum” overload! But it’s different now, it’s a chance to celebrate the love I had/have for my mum and the love I have for my son as his mother. It’s a bit lion king circle of life ish but it’s really special to me X””

I know how incredibly lucky I am to have my mum, and mother in law both as my friends and grandma’s to my children and how thankful I am to be a Mum myself. ....me as a Mum, there are moments when I am pulling my hair out with two little boys who are full of personality, but there are many more times when I just cannot stop looking at them, taking in each and every detail... they are such an incredible blessing and I promise to never forget just how lucky I am...

Sebastien, 6 Months | Baby Photographer Cheshire

I meant to post this blog way back because I absolutely fell in love with the session!  My heart still skips a beat looking through now.  Little Sebastien had been to see me as a newborn some months prior to this and when his mum asked to come back to see me, as always, I was over the moon.  

When we booked him in, we didn't know whether he would be sitting by this point, and he wasn't quite there, although we did manage to catch a couple of wobbly sitting ones at the end of the session (with mum and dad on hand to keep him secure).  However, we knew that it would be a great session as the main aim was to capture natural moments of Sebastien and his amazing parents, especially as dad hadn't been able to make it to his Newborn Session.  

As you will see, it was super relaxed and simply real.

Below are just a few of my favourites from the session...

If you're looking at getting images of your little ones in that first year, here is a brief guideline of what I capture...

Newborn Stage - Recommended age between 4-14 days, although some of my favourite sessions have been up to 6 weeks!  

3-6 Months - To capture those first beautiful smiles and babies are generally super happy to simply lie on their backs here or have cuddles.

6-9 Months - When they're super proud of sitting and ready to get on the move, showing off their crawling and rolling skills!

12 Months - An absolute must to capture this huge Milestone of turning 1! Where did that year go?! 

Hallie, Week 4

Hi all, 

As you know, I'm a Newborn Baby Photographer in Tarporley, Cheshire.  I love simplicity, details and emotion, and the wonder of newborns amazes me daily.  

When mums and mums to be contact me regarding newborn sessions, I always recommend booking soon after their 12 week scan.  This is generally because I try to limit my sessions each month, as of course we never know when baby is going to make their arrival into the world and I would never want to be in a position where I can't fit you in.  It also gives mum and dad peace of mind that they can relax and another box is ticked in the preparation of this life changing milestone in their lives.

I know that this isn't always the case and I know that some parents haven't even considered a newborn photography session before the birth of their baby and so I would always recommend contacting me to check for urgent availability.  As with Hallie here, I may not be able to do the session immediately, but just look at her, at 4 weeks she was absolutely perfect in every way and I'm so happy that I could capture these memories for her family.  This is a selection from her final gallery.

All of my newborn sessions take place in my home studio in Kelsall, along with my assistant...who happens to be my own wonderful mum, Julie, so you can relax and watch on.
