Amelia & Georgina’s Relaxed Portrait Session

Hi there!

To anyone who has just found my page for the first time, I’m Samantha of Samantha D Photography, specialising in Family, Children and Newborn Photography. I live in Cheshire, but I am honoured to say that I have clients travelling to me (and I to them) from further afield. My style of photography is photojournalistic, generally I love to capture connection…be that cuddles, kisses or tickles…I want memories of the real you in this moment, to be looked back on forever.

I am so lucky to see most of my clients back again and again…it is such a blessing to see them grow. Below are some images from a sibling photo session last year. Here we chatted about the Royal Wedding, friends, favourite teddies and lost teeth! Looking back now, it makes ME so happy to see these two…I can only imagine the smile it will bring to their faces in the years to come, and when one day, they’ll maybe even be looking back with their own children. I am so blessed to have that opportunity, and therefore, I pour my heart into each session.

Each and every child that I have met over the years is so incredibly unique and therefore, each and every session of mine is unique. I want to capture their personalities and their soul. Please feel free to take a look at some more studio sessions for older children in my portfolio.

If you would like to book a session with me, and you don’t find what you’re looking for in my shop please do contact me and I will happily send you further information and look at some suitable dates.

I look forward to hearing from you!

Michelle's Maternity Session

When you have two teenage daughters and you still look this incredible in pregnancy…I’m in awe!

Anne & Jacob's Mothers Day Mini Session

I absolutely LOVED my Mummy & Me Sessions!  They were super relaxed and all about fun and connection.

Here are some of my favourites from Anne and Jacob's Session.

I will be offering some Mini's again in time for Fathers Day, so make sure to contact me if you want to be the first to find out...

I meant to actually post a blog for Mothers Day (so long ago now!!!), but life took over and I never got round to it...here's where I got to...

The (very brief) History Of Mothers Day and what does it mean to you?

Ok, so I did a little research here (forgive me if anyone knows better :) ) after my little boy announced that it’s Mothers Day at the weekend and asked if he will get a present!!  I’m pretty sure he was trying it on…as he often does…and I explained that it’s the day when Mums get extra cuddles.  It led me to wonder though, (other than the obvious) why do we celebrate Mothers Day, where does the tradition come from?

It’s apparently not terribly straight forward, but having started in America, taking place on the second Sunday in May, the tradition then came over to the UK around 1913, where we celebrate on the fourth Sunday of Lent, to have “a day in praise of mothers”.  This began as a day to revisit your “mother” church (where you were baptised or attended as children), giving us Mothering Sunday.  Over time, it would become a day where servants working in large houses would be allowed the day off to visit their mothers and take a gift of food or hand me down clothes!  Nowadays, we continue to celebrate our Mothers Day by visiting (if we can) a very special person in our life and offering gifts, or if we’re really lucky, being treated to “extra cuddles” and attention ourselves!

I’m incredibly lucky with my own mum, she has been there through everything with me, even now she is still with me during my Newborn Sessions!

I asked some other Mum's what Mothers Day means to them, and I had such a lovely response...

Laura Hampson said “I feel that even though I’m a mother to an amazing baby boy, I do what I do because I am a mother and not to be celebrated, I celebrate my mum, my nan and my boyfriends mum as them being my sons Nans and Great Nan! I’d rather spend all my money making sure they know they’re all amazing grandparents than think about myself on mother’s day☺️ xx”
Kate Jerrum said “Mother’s Day has changed for me since I’ve had my little boy. I lost my mum when I was 21 and had found the build up to this once celebrated day excruciatingly difficult. It was “mum” overload! But it’s different now, it’s a chance to celebrate the love I had/have for my mum and the love I have for my son as his mother. It’s a bit lion king circle of life ish but it’s really special to me X”
Emma Boynton said:  ”I have a deepened understanding and respect for my Mum now I’m a Mum myself. I know how incredibly lucky I am to have my mum, and mother in law both as my friends and grandma’s to my children and how thankful I am to be a Mum myself. I hope I show my appreciation often but it’s important for them to know how special they are on Sunday.”

And an absolutely huge thank you to Charley Rimmer who wrote this very touching poem and shared it with me...

Caden

The weight gain and the feeling sick

The battle was mine alone

The hourly night time toilet trip

The battle was mine alone.

But when I heard your heart beat

And felt you move around

The battle was my pleasure son

In love with you, I’d drowned.

The back pain and the aching feet

The battle was mine alone

The stretch marks and the feeling beat

The battle was mine alone.

But when I saw you on the scan

It all seemed so worthwhile

Not even born or named or fed

Already you made me smile.

And then the labour pains, so bad

The battle was mine alone

I cried unsure of the strength I had

The battle was mine alone

But then you arrived

And nothing could compare

To the love and the peace

I felt then and there.

I was handed a baby, my son, my boy

And the pain just melted away

The battle became a time of joy

Everything changed upon that day

The sleepless nights and hungry days

The battle is mine alone

Learning all of your baby ways

The battle is mine alone

But what about Dad and sister and dog

Are they not battling too?

Well, yes my boy, I suppose they are

But they see a different you

For I will feel every tear you see

The battle is mine alone

I’m your mum and always will be

That pleasure is mine alone.

....me as a Mum, there are moments when I am pulling my hair out with two little boys who are full of personality, but there are many more times when I just cannot stop looking at them, taking in each and every detail... they are such an incredible blessing and I promise to never forget just how lucky I am...
